Hello and welcome to the January edition of Hear…Read This! It features four hosts and two books, making one book club every month – we’re back up to our usual number of hosts as Rob is back with us again now he’s feeling better.
This month, we’re discussing what we thought of Barcelona Shadows by Marc Pastor, translated by Mara Faye Lethem, and The Invisible Man by HG Wells. Take a listen and you’ll hear Simon of SavidgeReads and The Readers, Gav of GavReads and Rob and Kate of Adventures With Words sharing their thoughts.
Section 1: Barcelona Shadows by Marc Pastor (translated by Mara Faye Lethem)
This was Simon’s choice – he likes nothing better to read over the festive period than something full of murder and mystery. But will we be horrified by this tale of true crime, or left haunted by the experience of reading it?
Section 2: What Else We’ve Been Reading
Before we move on to our second book of the episode, the hosts discuss some of the other books they have been reading this month: Rob shared his thoughts on The Rabbit Back Literature Society and The Floating Admiral, as he wasn’t here last month, Simon recommends The Encyclopedia of Early Earth by Isabel Greenberg and The Bees by Laline Paull (hear Simon chatting with Laline on You Wrote The Book!), Gav enjoyed the insights on reading and writing from What Makes This Book So Great by Jo Walton and Kate raced through Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.
Section 3: The Invisble Man by HG Wells
This was Rob’s choice, picked because Rob suspected most people think they know the story but might be surprised to read the original tale. But will it make a lasting impression, or fade quickly from our memories?
Here are next month’s choices by Gav and Kate:
We hope you enjoy listening.
